R600 will most likely be one of the fastest cards on the market, most likely the fastest. But those who want to get even more performance may be thinking of getting more than one card, perhaps two R600 cards in a CrossFire configuration. This should be enough to crack any processor, just look at GeForce 8800 GTX SLI, which is often limited by the processor, but that’s not enough for AMD/ATI. It has namely been working hard on creating a support for more than two cards and according to The Inquirer R600 will be able to run Quad CrossFire. In other words four graphics cards working together in the same system.
AMD/ATI has supposedly managed to solve a lot of the performance problems that can arise with similar setups and even if you will need at least a 30″ display to be able to use this kind of capacity, the power requirements will be staggering. We’re eager to see how well a possible Quad CrossFire technology scales, but since we’ve already heard rumors about SLI 2.0, where there is support for at least 4 cards, there will be a tough battle for the performance crown.
