Even if most of all information surrounding AMD’s coming Evergreen family of graphics card comes unconfirmed and should be considered with a pinch of salt, things are starting to come together by now. The rumored specifications looks to have been confirmed with Cypress/RV870 as it looks to offer 1600 stream processors, and faster GDDR5 memory (5GHz) for slightly more bandwidth. Prices have now been revealed too.
The first two models are expected are expected to be Radeon HD 5870/5850 and according to BSN they will cost 399 USD and 299 USD respectively.
At the same time, they state that Hemlock, AMD’s first dual-GPU DirectX 11 graphics will cost 599 USD. This card will most likely be known as Radeon HD 5870 X2.
Even if AMD’s Cypress/RV870 GPU is pretty complex there will not be any problems with availability. TSMC has done well in optimizing its 40nm manufacturing process and when the card launches there will be plenty to go around, as it should be.
