ATI is expected to launch its flagship Radeon X1950 XTX on August 23 and we will be able to offer more information about this later on. But already the first performance figures for X1950 Crossfire has leaked out on the Internet. That this leak comes a few hours after that NVIDIA has launched its first official Quad SLI drivers is a very interesting coincidence. With the performance tests that are said to come from manufacturers of ATI’s Radeon X1950 series, X1950 Crossfire manages to overshine NVIDIA’s Quad SLI technology with basically all tests. The only games where Quad SLI, with two GeForce 7950 GX2 cards, manages better overall are Doom 3 and F.E.A.R.. Other games such as Half Life 2: Ep 1, Far Cry, Quake 4, Oblivion, Call of Duty 2 and Serious Sam 2 often work considerably better with X1950 Crossfire.

We’re talking about really high resolutions here where Quad SLI usually is really good at showing off, but just as our own internal tests show, Quad SLI has certain problems to really make use of all of its resources. Which perhaps may not be that weird considering that the load is divided among 4 graphics cores instead of 2. These performance figures are thus from ATI’s partners and should therefore of course be considered with a pinch of salt. But Radeon X1950 XTX truly has good potential and as expected the frequencies seems to land on 650MHz GPU and 2GHz for the GDDR4 memory.
