ReactOS is the incredibly ambitious project of creating an operating system that is open source and compatible with Windows XP applications and drivers. It’s been a while since we heard from the project, but it has now announced that version 0.3.1 has arrived. Even if the version step is small, the updates are large and numerous. At this early stage there is still a lot of work going into the most fundamental parts, such as HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer), which handles the communication between software and hardware, and the kernel. The list of updates is incredibly long and we certainly hope that the project stays alive, but also that the updates comes a bit more frequently in the future.
