HD DVD has earlier said it wants to avoid using region coding for as long as possible, but the latest news state we have already gone past this, just a few months after the launch. DVD Forum has namely decided to start up a group that will research a region coding technology for HD DVD. Whether this is a result of pressure from the movie companies or not we don’t know, but we should be able to assume they have at least some part in this. The Blu-ray group is already working on a region coding by dividing the world into three sections: America, Europe/Africa and Asia, with some exceptions such as China.
