Dell seems to have ended up somewhere between a rock and a hard place with its new xx07 family of monitors. We have earlier reported about consumers that have been complaining about the image quality with 2407WFP where “banding” has been a big problem. Banding comes from the evident bands with color transitions that indicate that the display lacks sufficient color depth to display a pure transition/gradient. Earlier rumors indicated that the problem was related to the DVI input with Dell’s monitors which strengthen the fact that Dell has screwed up with the electronics for the DVI input. It now seems that more Dell 2407WFP owners across the globe are reporting the same problem, but also owners of other models in the same family, 2007FP and 2007WFP, have experienced similar problems.
Dell is denying the whole matter and says there are no problems with the monitors, but to be honest we have to ask what monitors Dell is actually looking at. In Dell’s defence its new family of monitors are performing very well otherwise, but something seems to be wrong with how they handle the DVI signals. We will just have to wait and see if Dell will alter its opinion.
