We now have 3.5″ harddrives with 3TB capacity and each and every user has an external storage unit at home. A home server or NAS units is nothing compared to what a Russian file sharer decided to build though. In a regular wooden box he installed 90TB of storage and 40 fans.
Exactly how many meters of SATA cables needed to build this ghetto like home server we don’t know and even if the construction is more a result of good spirit than skill and finesse there is still something beautiful in transforming a wooden box into a gigiantic file server.
The bottom is covered by 20 fans where no less than 64 harddrives have been mounted. Above the harddrives we find the two servers located on either wall. The build is finished by a top, consisting of another 20 fans.
With plenty of ventilation the server should stay cool and with plenty of space to mess around in there any harddrive swaps should go smooth. Even if harddrive prices are at their lowest the server costs 4500€ in just storage. According to the build master the server is for private use and will store hundreds of copies of Blu-ray and DVD movies.
