AMD has successfully taped out its first chip on the 40nm node. The chip is no less than the mid-range chip RV740 meant to succeed the RV730. Any changes in the specifications remains clouded at this time, but we will of course keep digging for them. RV740 is the guinea pig and what AMD learns from it will be used to make RV870, the chip also known as Lil’ Dragon, even better. Stay tuned for more information on both.
