S3 Graphics 5400E is an integrated GPU that will only handle 3D graphics but it also supports the OpenCL standard for heavy calculations. The graphics circuits is made with an energy efficient 65nm technology and with a relatively low transistor count the physical size of the chip is quite cute with 23mmx23mm.
S3’s new GPU supports DirectX 10.1 and a separate video engine called ChromotionHD 2.1, which enables Blu-ray playback with acceleration of H.264, MPEG-2 HD, WMV9-HD, and VC-1 formats.
Chrome 5400E supports a load of video outputs like DisplayPort, DVI and HDMI, where the latter also supports 8 channel audio and HDCP. The circuit is targeted for the integrated market and operates over the PCI Express 2.0 interface with all newer platforms like Windows and most popular Linux distributions.
