S3 launched two new circuits a couple of months ago; S3 Chrome S25/S27. These low end circuits was S3’s first real attempt to steal marketshares from ATI and NVIDIA, which is not an easy task to be honest. Except for creating a competitive product you have to get it out to the consumers, the latter may very well be even more important as you never really now what a good salesman can do. Anyhow, S3 seems to have been able to spread its S3 Chrome S27 as it now announces that the big Internet store Newegg.com has started to sell its graphic cards. As we earlier reported S3’s S20 series are especially interesting for HTPCs and similar, while the relatively low price is a big plus as well. Whether S3 will be able to acquire any major portion of the market remains to see, but have at least taken the first small steps towards succeeding. “The addition of NewEgg.com as a major channel partner is a significant step forward in the expansion of S3 Graphics product availability in the US market,” said Dr. Ken Weng, General Manager of S3 Graphics. “At such aggressive price points, the 128MB and 256MB DDR3 Chrome S27 cards offer an astounding deal for consumers looking to upgrade their PC for popular games such as Quake™ 4 or build the perfect home theatre PC.” Source: VIA
