S3 MultiChrome is hardly a video card technology we hear a lot of and even if we reported about S3’s new video cards in the S20 series it is still ATI and NVIDIA that are the two choices for most consumers. Especially those who use their PC for playing games and that is what most people do, now and then. Anyhow, S3 actually has, with its S27 graphics circuits, a video card that on paper should be able to offer ATI and NVIDIA’s low end cards a real good fight. That it has also developed its own technology for connecting two of these like SLI or Crossfire is also feature to respect. But how well does S3’s MultiChrome technology actually work, at Tech Report they’ve investigated this as they’ve tested two S3 Chrome S27 cards in a MultiChrome configuration.
All in all S3 has done a good job with its MultiChrome technology and according to Tech Report it gives a really nice impression for such a fresh solution. It doesn’t have the same big problems SLI and Crossfire had to begin with. Unfortunately the performance with Chrome S27 isn’t quite capable of keeping up with ATI and NVIDIA’s equivalents which makes it hard to recommend S3’s solution. But it is still nice to see a new actor make it this far and hopefully this is just the start of it all.
