Samsung announces the new 7 series notebooks, that is looking pretty slim, and the case is made entirely from aluminum. The new series from Samsung will be available in four version where one is 14″, and the remaining are 15.6″ with 1600 x 900 pixel resolution. We also see a good choice of components, and hybrid harddrives.
The new Samsung 7 series offers many features for such a slim exterior, but the big news has to be that all models sport an aluminum casing. Plastic was attractive once, but nowadays most wants to get away from that cheap feel that many notebooks and other portable devices suffer from.

All models sports an optical drive in the form of a DVD burner, but it is possible to get Blu-Ray support. It has spent a lot of time designing the 7 series and the bezel is thinner than normal, which according to Samsung will make the 14.0″ models just slightly bigger than a regular 13.3″. All have relatively high resolution screen where competing models usually have only 1366 x 768 pixels.
The processors are two not yet launched models, where Intel Core i5-2430M will be the direct replacement for the more common Core i5-2410M and it is simply a bump in frequency of 100 MHz. Intel Core i7-2675QM is a quad-core model, which will replace Core i7-2630QM and comes with 200 MHz higher frequency. The 5 at the end implies it is a model with higher clocked GPU, but this is nothing we can confirm today.
An interesting bit is the harddrive, and a qualified guess is that it is a not yet launched version of the Seagate Momentus XT with 250, 320, 500 GB capacity and 4 GB SSD for cache. Considering Samsung is selling off its harddrive division to Seagate, and as the deal clsoed Seagate announced it would provide Samsung with harddrives. The new harddrives will sport 750 GB capacity and 8 GB dedicated NAND memory that acts as SSD cache, with advanced algorithms that memorizes the uses data pattern.
The 15.6″ models will weigh 2.3 kg, while the sole 14.0″ weighs 1.95 kg, which is pretty little considering the content. The battery times is up to 9 hours, and the store prices should be between 850 – 1,100€.
