“High speed and low power consumption”, this is how Samsung choose to describe their new DDR2 memory.
Samsung recently announced a massproduction of DDR2 memory.
“DDR2 is a viable technology and will play an important role in enabling the development of a new generation of feature-rich, high-speed gaming PCs, servers and network computers” said Tom Quinn, the vice President for Samsung USA.
Rumors say that DDR2 will have a speed of up to 1GHz. There is already graphic cards today using DDR2 memory, for an example ATI’s new R350-series and nVidia’s GeForce FX cards (5800 and 5800 Ultra). This new memory-type was not supposed to be announced until 2005, but will be available on the market in the beginning of next year to replace the DDR memory.
