Samsung has now decided to broaden its assortment with NOR flash. Samsung has previously only offered NOR flash at special order from large customers or as a part of package-deals, but has now decided to launch a broad assortment of NOR flash ranging from 16Mb up to 512Mb. Samsung will thus go up against Intel and AMD’s spin-off Spansion which are the two companies controlling the market, but there have been tendencies of moving from NOR to NAND from both Intel and STMicroelectronics, the third largest manufacturer, which makes this move a bit surprising. NOR flash is used with all kind of electronics for storage; mobile phones, network equipment and kinds of consumer electronics.
