GDDR4 is the technology that will take over where the GDDR3 technology will leave off. This shouldn’t be too far off either as ATi has already integrated support for GDDR4 with its latest memory controller of the X1K family. The development of GDDR4 chips is rapidly moving on and Samsung has as we have earlier reported made progress with GDDR4 and has now developed the fastest GDDR4 chip we’ve seen so far; it is a 512Mb chip with a transfer speed at 12.8GB/s, 30% faster than the last generation that was a 256Mb chip at 10GB/s. Right now we are just waiting to see these chip in use. Source: TMCNET
