Samsung hasn’t launched any new LCD-monitors nor lower their prices, but they have developed a new semiconductor that should both lower prices and powerconsumption for their LCD-panels. Samsung has developed a “multi-channel display driver IC” (DDI) whose purpose is to fuel the LCD-panel’s cells by sending electric signals to the individual pixels. A 17″ LCD-panel with a resolution of 1280×1024 pixels has earlier required around 10 pieces of DDI’s to work properly, but now a single Samsung 1026CH Source Driver IC can handle this all by itself. This logically results in lower manufacturing costs, but also a drop in power consumption.
