Samsung has presented a new series of notebooks taking aim for the ultrathin market where we find e.g. MacBook Air. Samsung’s new 9 series debutes with 13.3″ model that in a thin shell made from the aluminum alloy duralumin offers extra sturdiness with the 16.3 mm profile.
Duralumin is twice as strong as regular aluminum and is used frequenctly in the aero industry, which Samsung says offers extra durability and low weight, the computer weighs 1.31 kg. Samsung hasn’t just worked on the exterior but also made sure the new 9 series will do well in benchmarks. Under the duralumin hood we find Intel’s Huron River processor platform with the new Sandy Bridge processors.
A dual-core Core i5 or i7 CPU is assisted by the integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU and up to 8GB RAM for keeping performance up during load. The computer comes with a SSD sporting 128 or 256 GB storage. The 13.3″ display sports 1366×768 pixel resolution. More interestingly is the SuperBright Plus technology with 400 nits brightness and 1,300:1 contrast ratio for a really good picture even in bright conditions.
“The display alone is exceptional but to see it in an extremely mobile design is really impressive. When designing an ultra premium notebook, Samsung wanted to give users a notebook experience without limitations and the Notebook 9 Series excels on all fronts.”
Samsung’s PowerPlus technology will give the 9 series lithium polymer battery up to three times the lifespan as regular standard batteries through, among other, optimized charging technology.
Other features worth discussing is 1.3 megapixel web camera and automatic light sensors that adjust the screen brightness depending on the ambience. We have no information on the price of Samsung’s new 9 series, but as a premium product we expect a high price.
