Samsung recently launched two new LCD displays at 40″ and 46″, more than enough surface for most. But it’s a lot more than the surface which is offered by Samsung 400PXn and 460PXn. Samsung has namely integrated Microsoft’s operating system Windows XP directly into the displays. You could perhaps call it an overgrown iMac for the PC market. But that is perhaps distorting the truth a bit too much as it is not an integrated PC but more of a softare functionality to handle presentations and such. Samsung has used Windows XP Embedded, a mighty slim version of the Windows XP found in regular PCs. The thought behind the displays is that you will not have to dedicate a computer for the display and simply present information directly through the display’s software.
“Upgrades to the 2006 MagicNet enabled displays include an embedded Windows XP operating system, high definition resolution, portrait or landscape orientation modes, and video wall support up to 4×4 displays, all supported by MagicNet. These upgrades extend the capabilities of the displays with more choices for end-users while maintaining ease of use and simplifying the installation process.”
Samsung’s new Windows XP displays will be available today already but as expected these models are not intended for the regular consumer, which most likely also will be reflected by the prices, which are yet to be announced.
