Samsung has presented a number of new optical units the last few days and among these we see couple of Blu-ray burners. The most conspicuous is, literally, the Samsung SE-B046, which is an external model with USB2.0 and FireWire support. The really special about this unit is its design. Samsung has used a PS3-like design with a shiny black paint and other juicy details. The player supports 4x BD-R and 2x BD-RE (rewriteable). By using a blue and a red laser the unit also supports the older CD and DVD formats. Those who want to lay their hands on a SE-B046 will have to wait until next year.
Samsung will launch an internal Blu-ray burner, SE-B043, with the same specifications this year, but we’re still awaiting the price and a more detailed launch date. Except the new Blu-ray players it has also displayed a 20x DVD burner.
