Samsung presents the world’s thinnest LCD display

Samsung are juggling quite a few projects and has thanks to this a broad product assortment where both LCD monitors and mobile phones are important parts of it. Now it has presented a new technology that combines these two markets; the world’ thinnest mobile LCD panel. Samsung’s new LCD panel has a thickness of a mere 0.82mm, about the same as a credit card. Together its new i-Lens technology it has now developed a more slim and durable LCD panel than previous models. Samsung claims that mobile phone manufacturers will be able to slim their phones with 1.4 and up to 2.4mm by using its new i-Lens technology. This is because the manufacturer won’t have to use an external protection for the LCD panel, it’s namely integrated into the i-Lens design.



“The company also announced that it has developed a new mobile technology, which it is calling, “i-Lens”, for integrating the entire panel assembly, including a protective layer, into a single, thinner module that is more shock-resistant and easier to read than conventional panels.”


The new LCD display will hit mass production during the second half of 2007 and will do so at two sizes, 2.1″ and 2.2″, with a resolution at 240×320 pixels and a contrast ratio at 500:1.
