Samsung Q1 is one of the first UMPCs (Ultra Mobile PC) to arrive after Microsoft’s successful Origami PR campaign and Intel’s launch of the hardware platform at IDF. It was said that Samsung would launch the first unit in May and so it has, But the question is if it could keep the promises of an ultra-portable and userfriendly PC, which pretty much is the whole point of the concept. At PC Mag they’ve published a review of Samsung Q1 and it is not good. It actually starts off with some really harsh words:
“In the end, though, I feel that the UMPC idea is just another questionable attempt by Bill Gates to revive the Slate Tablet.”Considering how the Tablet PC market has evolved, or more precise not, it is a hard judgment for Intel and Microsoft’s “new” design concept. Although, according to PC Mag there are some nice features as well with Samsung Q1, such as its 7″ display. But overall it doesn’t impress and the question is if it’s Samsung or the UMPC’s concept’s fault.
