Both Hynix and Qimonda have announced GDDR5 chips, 512 Mb and 1 Gb capacity respectively. Samsung has now joined the race with the announcement of a 512 Mb GDDR5 chip with a bandwidth of 6 Gb/s, and a throughput of a whopping 24 GB/s, the fastest so far. Hynix 1 Gb chip has a bandwidth of 5 Gb/s and a throughput of 20 GB/s. Both chips operate at 1.5 V. The Samsung chip will be made with 60 nm technology and the shipping should start sometime next year.
