Samsung Slate PC is both tablet and Windows PC

Samsung comes out of left field and launches and dockable tablet with Windows. The product group is not expected to take off before the launch of Windows 8, but already Samsung takes the Slate PC to market.

Samsung Slate PC is an 11.6″ tablet with SIM slot and TCO certified for the more productive users. The 11.6″ screen builds on a PLS panel that Samsung claims will offer higher brightness than most other soltuions, at 400 nits, together with durable gorilla glas the Slate PC will work just fine outdoors. The resolution is set to 1366 x 768 pixels and a relatively powerful processor for a tablet, Intel Core i5-2467M.

The speedy processor is related to Samsung’s gearing of the tablet, where if hopes to attract productive business users and other more demanding customers. By selling the tablet with a bundled docking station, Bluetooth keyboard and pen, Samsung hopes to get a foot in on the tablet business market.

Among the remaining specifications we find a weight at 890 gram, 13mm profile and up to 7 hour battery time. The tablet sports two cameras, 802.11n WiFi, USB 2.0, microHDMI, microSD reader and SIM card reader for mobile broadband. The docking station then sports extra USB, Ethernet and HDMI for connecting to an external monitor. The tablet ships with Windows 7 Professional, but is ready to be upgraded to Windows 8.

Samsung Slate PC will start selling in January at cirka 1500 euro.
