Samsung recently managed to make a complete fool out of itself through its new mobile phone “Skin”, it namely used graphical icons which was simply stolen from Apple and Microsoft. It was in the mobile phone’s menus that i had “borrowed”, among others, an icon from Apple’s iMac; a picture with two sheets of paper and a pen on top symbolizing a notepad function. From Microsoft it had taken the MSN Messenger icon with two blue and green fellows. Samsung has now admitted that it had copied Apple’s and Microsoft’s icons, but that it has not been able to conclude who was resonsible for that the icons was used with the new phone. The result from Samsung’s dreadful theft has so far been limited to bad PR and a recall of all Skin phones in South Korea.
It has now updated the icons of the Skin series’ user interface and the models that had the copied icons are not suppose to be around anymore. Whether Samsung’s mistake will lead to any legal complications on Apple and Microsoft’s behalf remains to be seen.
