Samsung is one of the biggest mobile phone manufacturers in the world and when it officially confirms it is working on a phone using NVIDIA’s Tegra platform it is pretty big news. NVIDIA’s Tegra platform is based on the ARM11 architecture and one of more powerful system chips for mobile devices and with graphics related to NVIDIA’s GeForce 6 family there is plenty of power to collect. NVIDIA’s Tegra 650 chip is actually theoretically faster than Nintendo Wii.

NVIDIA’s current Tegra- circuits are ARM11 compliant, which is the precursor for the Cortex A8 architecture found in Palm Pre and iPhone 3G S. But NVIDIA’s graphics portion can not be neglected and the fact that Tegra can be equipped with dual processor circuits for even better performance.

Samsung hasn’t shared any details on its Tegra mobile phone, but after seeing NVIDIA demo 1080p video on the Tegra platform we have been following the development of the chip ever since.

The mobile phone is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter. The operating system is still up for speculation, but Windows CE and Android are top contenders.
