SanDisk and Sony has now announced that they will be working together and develop a new type of memory cards; SxS (S-by-S). The news about these cards is that they sport an overall higher storage capacity, up to 16GB, and very high transfer rates; up to 800Mbps. The memories are flash-based and measures (WxHxL) 34mm x 5mm x 75mm. The cards are mainly intended for professional video cameras and such. The cards use the current ExpressCard standard and are thus communicating directly with the PCIe bus, which tends for even better performance. Sony will have support for the new cards with its XDCAM EX series.
