SanDisk has now announced its contribution for stimulating computer education in developing countries. The SanDisk uSSD 5000 Solid State Drive is an inexpensive embedded module for substituting the much more costly mechanical harddrives. SanDisk uSSD 5000 is actually an USB module that has been designed to be integrated directly onto the motherboard. The module measures only 27 mm x 38 mm, which is only a fourth of the size of a 1.8″ harddrive, and offers more than adequate performance for the low-end PCs it is intended for. For example, the Intel Classmate PC will use the SanDisk uSSD 5000 series.
The USB flash module sports a storage capacity of 2 up to 8 GB. SanDisk uSSD 5000 is actually the first product from SanDisk that uses its Multi-Level Cell (MLC) technology, which is used to increase storage density in flash chips without taking up any more space.
