Sapphire as designed the first HD 5770 FleX graphics card with Eyefinity support without using DisplayPort, while a DisplayPort-capable monitor can be used to build a 4-way Eyefinity configuration.
Sapphire HD 5770 FleX is basically a regular Juniper graphics card with 800 Stream processors and 1GB GDDR5 memory. Clock frequencies at 850 MHz GPU and 4,800 MHz memory makes the card powerful enough to power everything from games to GPGPU applications.
By giving the card an extra video circuit users can use all four video outputs more efficiently. The two regular DVI outputs can be completed with a third monitor connected to the HDMI port with a simple passive DVI-to-HDMI adapter and that way build a 3-way Eyefinity configuration without having to buy new DisplayPort monitors or active DisplayPort adapters.
The SAPPHIRE HD 5770 FleX is the first card on the market to support three DVI monitors in ATI Eyefinity mode and deliver a true SLS (Single Large Surface) work area without the need for costly active adapters. The majority of HD 5000 series cards with ATI Eyefinity support require the third monitor to be DisplayPort compatible, or an active DisplayPort to DVI or VGA adapter to be used.
Those who have a DisplayPort monitor can use the DisplayPort output while the rest of the outputs still work and create a big 4-way Eyefinity configuration.
The card will be available shortly, cost around $20 more than the average Radeon HD 5770 but Sapphire points out that also gets more you a better cooler, on top of the Eyefinity feature.
