Seagate 7200.9 is the name of the latest harddrive series from Seagate. The new series seems to replace both the 7200.7 and 7200.8-series. Seagate 7200.9 will be avilable from 40GB up to 500GB and will have bufferts between 2MB to 16MB. The new series supports the latest SATA-standard, SATA 2.5, which means transfer rates up to 3Gbps, something a harddrive will never be able to achieve though, but also support for NCQ. It has also improved the harddrives durability considerably but also the level of noise will be lower than earlier versions, which we really appreciate. In sleep mode the the harddrive will make so littel noise you will not be able to hear it according to Seagate. At Anandtech they’ve published an article on the new 7200.9-series and we are right now only waiting for reviews of these harddrives that at least on paper is looking very goodm with both high capacity, good performance and low level of noise.
