Seagate latest Barracuda 7200.11 harddrives have some major issues where many users have been reporting about how the harddrive has thrown in the towel without any prior notice, especially the 1TB model. Seagate looked the other way for some time before stepping up and releasing a firmware update that would remedy the problems with the 7200.11 series. But the new SD1A firmware was rather worthless since many have been reporting bricked and inaccessible drives after applying the update.
It seems like especially Seagate’s ST3500320AS models are affected by this sudden “death by update” and at Seagate’s forum users have been posting about how their 500GB harddrives have turned into very expensive paper weights.
Seagate has released another firmware update that seems to revive the bricked drives. SD1A v2 will namely remedy the stuttering that was the initial reason Seagate decided to release a new firmware. It seems like Seagate has finally found a working solution for the 7200.11 series, which hopefully means that people will get what they actually paid for.
