Even if harddrive giant Seagate is reluctant to comment on a bid on SSD maker OCZ Technology the company has now admitted that it is interested in buying or cooperating with an actor in the enterprise SSD market, where OCZ is said to be the only decent option.

It is too early to say if there will be a deal between Seagate and OCZ Technology, but the latest statement by Segate CFO Pat O’Malley shows the company is keeping an eye on OCZ.

“We look at all technology product providers (for mergers and acquisitions), but what I would say is that on the enterprise SSDs, there is probably only one of them that really makes any significant money,” – Pat O’Malley when talking to Reuters.

At the same time O’Malley was reluctant to give any direct comments on the rumors that Seagate is not only interested in OCZ Technology, but also made a bid for the company. OCZ has seen a rise in stock value of nearly 40 percent over the last few weeks as a result of the rumors.

Previous rumors mentioned how both Seagate and Micron were interested in OCZ Technology, which has made a name in both retail and enterprise channels. OCZ is perhaps best known among consumers for its Vertex series, where the latest addition Vertex 4 was awarded our Reference Product award in our last roundup. In the enterprise segment, which is what Seagate is most interested in, it is the Deneva series that rules, but also PCI Express solutions in the OCZ Z series.
