One would think shrinking a harddrive in such an amount would
affect performance greatly, but just by comparing techinical specifactions you
can see that this is clearly not the case. The accesstimes are the same
literally, platter capacity the same, average transfer rate likewise. The
performance tests also shows that this tiny drive is practically as fast as the
other regular sized SCSI drives on the market.
As a small form factor enthusiast with a soft spot for SCSI, I
couldn’t let Savvio go unscrutinized. I’ve run one of these tiny drives through
our usual gauntlet of storage tests against five full-size 10K-RPM alternatives.
The results are both surprising and inspiring. Read on to see how well the
Savvio stacks up.
