Intel will launch the first generation of processors sporting integrated graphics circuits. Something many feared would kill the market for third-party chipset makers. Thous NVIDIA seems to have an ace up its sleeve, the next generation Hybrid SLI. The idea is to let Intel’s energy efficient Arrandale CPU handle simple graphical tasks with its integrated GPU to maximize battery time, while the more powerful NVIDIA GPU will be ready to kick in when there is a greater need for power.

Hybrid SLI relied on an integrated and discrete graphics circuit from NVIDIA but with Intel’s new platforms it looks like NVIDIA’s graphics circuits will be able to, if not work together with Intel’s ditto, at least take over seamlessly.

Several major PC builders have spoken to Intel and asked for room to fit NVIDIA’s mobile 40nm graphics circuits since its coming technology for switching between different GPUs will be a lot more efficient than the current one.

If AMD can’t get its energy efficient mobile graphics circuits out soon NVIDIA is in a really good position to grab large portions of the performance segment and companies like Acer, ASUS and Dell are said to be prepared to follow.
