Shrinking sites are the future

0

Small preview imageit is getting more and more common that you use your cell phone to browse the web. The problem is though that very few sites works good with the minimal display most cell phones have. However this hasn’t passed by unnoticed and a lot of companies are right now working on a new Internet-adress that will improve sites function on smaller displays. Eleven Telecom and technologi companies has presented a plan for .mobi adresses and it has been approved by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. In about a year you will be able to browse sites such as www.hotmail.mobi and automatically the site will change depending on what unit you are using to browse with.

“When you access a .mobi site, it should look like it belongs on a small screen. In theory, behind every .mobi address will be a series of “style sheets” that let the site identify what kind of device you have and its screen resolution and size, for instance what kind of Web browser it uses and the amount of bandwidth you have and then adapt its presentation accordingly.”

To be honest this feels like a necessity for browsing with cell phones to have any future. We surely hope more companies will jump on to this technology and perhaps you will even be able to read NH from a .mobi-adress soon?
