Socket AM2/M2 is as you know by now, the name of AMD’s new CPU-platform, the first AMD-platform to support DDR2-memory. As for mainboard manufacturers, it brings changes as new socket, new memory slots and other changes that may be required in order to get the chipset to co-operate with the rest of AMD’s new platform. But the price should remain pretty much the same for AM2/M2 mainboards when they are launched. AMD have told motherboard manufacturers that the cost should be about 5$ to 10$ higher in the beginning, a difference which should fade away pretty fast as Socket AM2/M2 establishes itself.
We also get it confirmed that Socket AM2/M2 only will support DDR2-SDRAM, which isn’t much of a surprise as the integrated memory controller really is integrated to AMD’s processors.
