Socket F caught on camera

Small preview image

Socket F is the next generation platform for AMD’s Opteron processors and AMD has chosen to use a new socket. Not only the number of pins are astonishing, 1207, but also the fact that AMD has chosen to move on to a LGA form factor for the first time. At The Inquirer they’ve come across a photo of a Socket F motherboard called KFN4-DRE, that according to its specifications sports DDR2-800, just as expected. We will see more of these Socket F motherboards during CeBIT, but this is one the first to be caught on camera, even though it seems to be a poor such.
