Llano will be the first processor of AMD’s APU family Fusion. With both CPU and GPU on the same silicon it will be a radical change from current Phenom processors, and not surprisingly it will require a new platform called Socket FM1.
Socket FM1 will take over in the mid-range segment after Socket AM3 and with AMD Llano support it will be capable of up to four cores, integrated DirectX11 GPU and DDR3-1600 RAM.
There are still few details on the specifications of the socket, like size, pins or cooler support. Paired with AMD’s new Hydson series of chipset we find support for SATA 6.0 Gbps and perhaps even USB 3.0 with some models.
Llano is expected to appear in desktops in Q1 2011, but already in Q4 the equivalent mobile platform, Brazos, with the mobile Ontario processor series will be available for purchase.
