Solution to ABIT’s problem with NF7-S and SATA

Many of you have heard or expierienced yourselves that ABIT has had big problems with the SATA support on their nForce2 based NF7-S models. Especially with RAID 0 configurations problems have occured, such as corrupt Windows installations and other enerving errors. You can read more about these erros in ABIT’s own forum. Very few have actually gotten the SATA support up and running without flaws and ABIT has been accused of ignoring this problem. After our nForce2 roundup here on NH we got into contact with ABIT and then found out that their engineers worked on solving the problem in cooperation with Silicon Image which manufactures the SATA controller on ABIT NF7-S. The hard work the two companies have put into this seems to be giving results and information about a solution has now reached us; it does not seem to be complicated. Here below you can see an exert from the E-mail we got from ABIT today concerning this issue.

“Here’s the latest update for SATA RAID-0 broken issue on NF7-S mainboards. After co-working with Silicon Image for one week, we finally found the SATA RAID-0 broken issue was caused by some improper register values. We already tested latest beta driver from Silicon Image; which fixes the wrong register values and had been confirmed to solve SATA RAID-0 broken issue in ABIT lab. Silicon Image will provide us another official release driver and ABIT will release it to customers in a couple of days.”

We now hope that this new device driver will quickly find it’s way to us users.
