Sondigo Inferno 7.1 is something as unusual a performance sound card which is not made by Creative. What makes Inferno different from the other sound card alternatives is that Sondigo was founded by a man who earlier has made some great work at both Dolby and C-Media before he decided to start his own busniess. Inferno comes with 8 channel support, both analog and digital through S/PDIF. The high quality components results in a high quality sound. Bit-tech has tested the card and are the least to say pleased. They compare it to X-Fi and a Realtek HD circuit and when it comes to music and movies Inferno seems to have the cutting edge, but when it comes to gaming X-Fi is hard to beat because of its superior EAX support.
“The major chip is C-Media’s “Super High Performance PCI Audio Processor”, the Oxygen CMI8788 which offers up to 12 outgoing channels and 8 ingoing channels, each channel consisting of one multi-channel DMA (32 bits, 8 channels, 192k), S/PDIF DMA (32 bits, 2 channels, 192k), and front panel DMA (16 bits, 2 channels, 48k). The 8 ingoing channels are spread in 3 recording DMAs (32 bits, 192k). This is basically the highest end consumer bitrate and frequency enablement to playback. It even has built in S/PDIF transmitters and receivers to eliminate the need for extra IC’s that affect the clarity of the digital audio.”
