In an interview with a German newspaper Sony’s Phil Harrison has defended the company’s choice of developing a controller with motion sensors. It has earlier been accused of stealing the concept from Nintendo’s Wii controller. This is something that Phil Harrison not only considers stupid but also claims that it is not uncommon that companies are working in parallel with similar technologies. To further boast Sony’s PlayStation 3 video game console Harrison takes it all one step further and claims that the video game and its broad area of use will make the PC completely redundant. A daring statement, the least to say, and something he may end up getting thrown back at him both once and twice. But with its advanced hardware and its Linux-based operating system Harrison means that there is no reason why anyone would need to use a PC.

“We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [home] computer functions,” said Harrison. “The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC.”
