Sony HES-V1000 is what Sony calls a Home Entertainment Server and it is hardly a misleading description of this Blu-ray monster. HES-V1000 has a tower design and Sony’s classic black/blue colors. At a first glance you can see that this is not something that comes cheap. When you then peek at the specifications there’s no doubt that this is a product for the really fastidious HD fanatics. HES-V1000 namely comes with an integrated storage of 500 GB, but even more impressive is its feature as a BD/DVD/CD changer. The unit can namely inhale no less than 200 Blu-ray movies at once and then you can switch between them through a simple lick on the remote. HES-V1000 can also write to Blu-ray media, which even further broaden its use.

“The unit features a full HD 1080p 200-disc Blu-ray Disc™/DVD/CD changer (196 12cm BD/DVD/CDs and four 8cm BD/DVDs) and 500GB hard disc drive that can store up to 137 hours of video, 40,000 songs or 20,000 digital photos. Additionally, the device is Sony’s first Blu-ray Disc-capable component other than a VAIO® notebook or optical PC drive that can burn content to Blu-ray Discs, as well as DVDs.”

The unit can also stream media from the harddrive wirelessly to other Sony devices such as PlayStation 3 and Sony’s wireless CPF-IX001 music player. The price of the server will be about 3,500 USD, which is perhaps a bit more than most people are ready to pay for a media server. Those who are still feeling the urge to get one will have to wait until October when HES-V1000 is expected to appear at Sonystyle.com.
