Sony have several odd creations for the mobile market. Beside the VAIO Hybrid PC that it is rumored to be working on, it has a VAIO model with Google’s Chrome OS coming. Under the hood we will find a Tegra 2 processor from NVIDIA with dual cores at 1 GHz and 11.6″ display.
Sony adapts Google’s idea with Chrome OS, an operating system that will be easy to run and doesn’t need much local storage, but it also requires an internet connection to work well. The platform has relatively low reqiurements, which is reflected by Sony’s VAIO prototype.
Beside NVIDIA’s mobile Tegra 2 SoC it has equipped the computer with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage through eMMC memory (electronic multimedia card). The GPU is integrated into Tegra 2 and other functions include Wi-Fi and battery times up to 8 hours. Sony isn’t entirely finished with the detailed specifications and things like Bluetooth may appear later.
Google CR-48, the first certified Chrome OS PC
Sony’s Chrome OS VAIO PC will measure 19,9 x 298 x 215 mm (H x B x D) and will sport functions for superfast boot times and automatic updates of the operating system. Beside Google’s own software we can probably expect VAIO-specific solutions. The launch is slated for this summer.
