It’s been a while since the glory days of the Walkman ended and beside Apple, Sony has many tough competitors on the MP3 player market. Information on Sony’s coming Walkman, expected to launch at CES 2009, has leaked and it is quite obvious what Sony has focused on. Its “drag and drop” Walkman will be quite clean, I.e. the screen is the key. The new media player will sport a 3″ OLED touchscreen with WQVGA (428×240) resolution and 10 000:1 contrast ratio.

Except the on paper impressive display, Sony has installed WiFi which brings YouTube support where you can go directly to the video site to watch the video of the music your listening to with the press of a button.

The player will support most known audio and video formats, such as AVC (h.264), MPEG-4 and WMV for utilizing the screen in the best possible manner.

Other interesting features include FM radio, digital S-Master amplifier and integrated web browser. Other than that the details are sparse and even if there are pictures of a designer model posted over at SonyInsider the final design might be a bit different.
