Solid State Drives figuratively one of the hottest products around and even though we are doing our best at testing these things, it’s not easy. The differences from regular mechanical drives are many and it has become popular to put SSDs through many different kinds of synthetic benchmarks, which is far from an objective overview of how a SSD truly performs in a PC at regular use, which is what really matters in the end.

At Anandtech they have published a walkthrough of the SSD technology where they look closer at how performance is affected after periods of use and how the TRIM command of Windows 7 will remedy this problem.

An interesting test that also offer plenty of real world scenarios that we hope to investigate further in our own coming SSD article.

Solid State Drives are here to stay, but there is a lot more behind the technology than what you see in the form of transfer speeds and paper specifications.
