Energy efficient computers are becoming all the more popular and it seems AMD is preparing a desktop processor with really low power consumption. AMD Athlon II X2 270u has a TDP of only 25 watt, lower than many mobile processors.
The new super efficient processor will launch in Q3 2010 and build upon the Regor core. Athlon II X2 270u uses a C3 stepping Regor circuit with dual cores and 2.0GHz clock frequency and 2MB cache.
The processor also supports DDR3-1333 RAM and is expected to cost around $150. The price is a reflection of the low power consumption since an Athlon II X2 250 CPU with 65 watt TDP and two cores at 3.0 GHz costs $60.
Athlon II X2 270u should still attract buyers from HTPC builders and other consumers looking for decent performance with extremely low power consumption.
