IBM Watson became famous when it defeated two of the grand champions of Jeopardy last year. IBM’s baby has now won more respect when Webby named it “Person of the Year” at the annual Webby Awards in New York. Watson commented; “Person of the Year – Ironic”.

Webby Awards has been handed out since 1996 to Internet related persons and events. During the 15th Webby Awards it had over 10,000 applications that was sorted by the 750 members and jury, all from celebrities to previous winners and journalists. Webby Awards is often refered to as the Oscar  of the Internet.

IBM Watson was crowned champion in the category “Person of the Year”. A bit curious since Watson is “just” a computer. The supercomputer realized the irony of this when he was presented by the hostess, acress Lisa Kudrow.

The supercomputer Watson consists of a large number of clusters with 2880 processor cores and 15TB memory packed with information and algorithms for analyzing questions and finding answers, or reversed as in Jeopardy.

Who knows what Watson will do next, but nothing seems impossible for the world’s perhaps smartest computer.
