Swiftech is known for its well performing cooling solutions and it has now announced a new water block for one of the hottest graphics cards on the market. Swiftech Caldera is specially designed for AMD’s Radeon HD 4870X2 graphics card with two powerful RV770 GPUs that doesn’t just bring massive performance, but also massive heat. Radeon HD 4870X2 isn’t the easiest card to cool, especially for those who are looking to push the card further with some overclocking.

Swiftech hopes to give these users a new weapon in the hunt for more performance. The Caldera cooler consists of two main components, one passive cooling heatsink for the memories, voltage regulators and such. While the the water block is attached to the actual graphics processors. This is to make sure the GPUs will get the best possible contact with the block.

“Compared to monolithic solutions, the primary advantage of uncoupling the cooling elements is to optimize the cooling capacity and the thermal joints for components that need it the most: the graphics processing units.”

The price of the water block is $159 which makes it a pretty big investment for just a graphics card cooler. But if you’re after optimal cooling with the least possible noise it could be an interesting alternative.
