Tagan Icy Box IB-3218 reviewed

Tagan has just launched the Icy Box IB-3218 harddrive cabinet. It is largely made from aluminum, has a built-in fan, One-touch Back-up (only Windows) and works as external storage with Windows, Mac and Linux. Unfortunately there is only USB, no Ethernet or FireWire, but IB-3218 does have JBOD support, which means that it can merge two smaller harddrives into one large virtual disk. In a recent review Icy Box IB-3218 was compared to Eagle Consus (750 GB Seagate installed), Maxtor Onetouch Mini 250 GB and a “regular” 3.5″ Western Digital Caviar 500 GB and stood up well.

“The Tagan Icy Box has many nice features, like the ability to take two small capacity drives and make them look like one larger capacity drive. Also, you can take the drive with you wherever you go, unlocking the ability to show people your picture archives or home made movies with ease. A backup button allows you to use backup software to save all your irreplaceable data at the touch of a button, whether it’s your work spreadsheets, that final paper you have to turn in tomorrow, or pictures of your kid taking their first steps.”
