The four biggest motherboard manufacturers in Taiwan have during the first quarter of 2006 increased the number of shipped motherboards with 26% compared to the same period last year. Of the four, Asustek Computer, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), Gigabyte Technology and Micro-Star International (MSI), it’s ECS that has improved the most with a whopping 36.1% followed by MSI at 34.7%. ASUStek is still the unthreatened king of the hill and it increased its shippings with 22.2% from 12.06 million boards to 14.74 million, which was more than the other three shipped together. Things are really going well for the motherboard manufacturers and considering that both AMD and Intel are about to launch new platforms during the second and third quarter the future is looking very bright.
