TDK is without a doubt one of the leading actors in optical meda manufacturing and the next generation media is truly no exception. TDK has now presented a version of Blu-ray media where size is the only thing that matters. It has simply made a mini Blu-ray disc that is suppose to be used with the next generation high-res video cameras. The single-layer model it has now displayed has a capacity of at 16.5GB but with dual layers this could be increased to 33GB. Not bad for an 8cm (3.2 inches) optical disc.
This will get you pretty far when recording high-res video directly onto the disc. Any commerical video cameras supporting the new miniBD discs are not available today though, but we’re pretty sure it won’t be long before there are.
